Celebrating America's Black History Month

"It's Black History Month in America. My Mum said I should learn about it. We don't celebrate it here in the UK until October but at least I'll get a head start in school! Did you know Black History Month was first recognised in 1915? Half of a century after the thirteenth amendment abolished slavery. It was a historian called Carter G Woodson and a minister Jesse E Moorland who originally started the idea. President Gerald Ford made it official in 1976. This year the theme's about African Americans in times of war, and it'll be the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I."
